The Vacation by T.M. Logan

About the book: In The Vacation, a captivating thriller from T. M. Logan, the bestselling author of Lies and 29 Seconds, four lifelong friends on a luxurious vacation come face-to-face with an explosive secret.

It was supposed to be the perfect vacation, dreamed up by Kate as the ideal way to turn 40: four best friends and their husbands and children, spending a week in a luxurious villa under the blazing sunshine of Provence.

But there is trouble in paradise.

Kate suspects that her husband is having an affair—and that the other woman is one of her best friends. One of these women is willing to sacrifice years of friendship and destroy her family. But which one?

As Kate closes in on the truth in the stifling Mediterranean heat, she realizes—too late—that the stakes are far higher than she ever imagined. And someone in the villa may be prepared to kill to keep their lies hidden.

My review: Another five star read from T.M. Logan. This book grabbed my interest from the beginning and kept me intrigued until the last page.

There’s a cast of charcters in this book and at first I had a bit of trouble keeping them straight. Once I got to know them it was no longer an issue and I found myself immersed in the lives of these people. The characters are all well-developed and they are a bit complex which made the story even better.

The story has a nice pace and there’s lots of twists and turns as the reader learns more about each character. All through the story I thought I had things figured out only to learn that I did not. This was part of the fun of reading this story though. Trying to figure out just who was having the affair with Kate’s husband.

T.M Logan knows how to tell a story and how to keep the reader interested. I’ve read several of his books and his approach to each one is different with the end result being the same. A fantastic story that keeps readers guessing until the end.

The book is definitely a must read for fans of the genre and would be an excellent introduction to this author.

My thoughts:

The first book in Dana Mentink’s new series is a fast-paced, action-packed story full of edge-of-your-seat scenes that will have your heart racing. I have no doubt she’ll be able to top these scenes in the future books of the series. It will be so fun to see how.

This story captured my attention from the very beginning. The opening scene creates the tone for the rest of the story with a dark, stormy night full of danger for Shelby Arroyo, the leading lady of the story. This woman can manage to get herself into a lot of dangerous situations and it’s a good thing she has Barrett Thorn there to rescue her. Barrett may come across as a brooding cowboy but there is so much more to him. Oh, and I absolutely adored Evie Thorn, the matriarch of the Thorn family! Is it possible for her to adopt me?

Reading this story it’s hard to believe that it’s written by a third grade teacher who is mom to Junie the dog and posts funny videos on social media. This book is dark, mysterious, and so good. It really shows her ability as an author to write a wide range of stories. I enjoy the fact that she can make me laugh or, in this case, keep me on the edge of my seat and turning pages long into the afternoon or night.

This is a book you don’t want to miss out on reading. I’m already anxious to read the next book in the series and see what’s in store next for the Thorn family. This is one for the keeper shelf.

I received a free copy of this book and was not required to write a review. All opinions are mine.

My thoughts: Two things I have learned from reading Dana Mentink’s books are: 1) don’t start them close to bedtime as bedtime will be delayed by hours (not minutes) and 2) this sweet author can write some really sinister stories and characters. That being said I have to say I absolutely loved this book. Once I started reading I couldn’t put it down.

This was a fast-paced story with twists and turns in every chapter. I loved the fact that I was unable to guess what was going to happen next. This book kept me on the edge of my seat from beginning to end.

I’m not sure how this author who is so sweet and funny on her social media creates such cringe-worthy, creepy characters but I am so glad she does. I believe Wade Whitehorse may be her most cringe-worthy character to date. This character had me wanting to get up and close the curtains while reading the book. My favorite character was Ben. He brought some light moments to what was a very suspenseful story.

If you like suspense then this is a must-read book for you. It’s a quick read and is an ideal way to spend an afternoon or evening. Get caught up in the lives of the people of Roughwater Ranch. You’ll be glad you did!
